Ask the Right Questions: Choosing a Ceremony Site

December 17, 2018

You’ve been thinking about this a long time, at the very least since becoming engaged. When you walk down the aisle and say “I do” to the love of your life, where exactly is this going to happen? Luckily, there are many fantastic choices out there, from houses of worship, to museums, party venues, al fresco vows on the beach, on a boat, overlooking majestic vistas. If you can imagine it, you can book it.

The upside: there are so many to choose from!

The downside: there are so many to choose from.

There can be some difficulty in narrowing sites down to those that best suit your preferences and accommodate your needs. However, with a tentative guest count in mind, your budget, and whatever grand vision you’ve dreamed up, your ceremony location is just a handful of thoughtful questions away. Bring this handy list with you when touring a site and fire away at whomever is guiding you around.

Given our prospective wedding date, how far in advance are we required to book?
Does pricing vary depending on day of the week, and are certain seasons more affordable than others?
Do you offer discounted military rates?
Do you offer an indoor space in the event of inclement weather?
If we booked with you, would we be the only event taking place on site that particular day?
What is the window of time permitted to use the space? Is there a fee charged should we run over in time?
Can your grounds double as reception space? If so, is there a package rate to host both events?
Are there restrooms available for my guests, and if so, how many?
(For public spaces) Is a permit required to host our ceremony here?
Is there an organ or piano available for use, and if so, is there a fee to do so?
Is it permitted to light candles?
How far in advance can my rentals team and florist arrive with décor and equipment?
Do we have free reign to move furnishings around as needed, or must everything stay in place?
Is there a sound system available for use? Do they have a microphone provided?
Is there a clean-up fee? And by when is clean-up expected to be completed?
