Amy & Andrew’s Magical, Merry Winter Wedding

July 9, 2019

Amy from Meriden, Connecticut, and Andrew from Burlington, Wisconsin, met while working at Epcot at Disney World. “Andrew was a trainer at Mission: Space,” Amy says. “I was working there during college, and I immediately thought he was the cutest guy I had ever met. I called my mom on my lunch break to tell her all about him!”

When Andrew proposed to Amy, he did so with her sweet mother in mind. “After my mom passed away in June of 2015, I had a hard time enjoying anything Irish — I was an Irish step dancer throughout my childhood, an activity my mother and I did together.” Hoping to honor Amy’s mother and turn her heartache into joy, Andrew chose a Celtic-style engagement ring and popped the question at Raglan Road, an Irish restaurant in Orlando. “It was perfect.”

The two planned a winter wedding in Wisconsin. The theme: A Celtic Wisconsin Christmas. “We focused on the natural beauty of Wisconsin during the holidays while bringing in family Celtic heritage.” The ceremony, reception, and all photos took place at Lake Lawn Resort. Even the rehearsal dinner was held at Lake Lawn’s LookOut Bar and Grill. “We did an old-fashioned Friday fish fry. Our guests loved this traditional Wisconsin meal!”

Andrew and Amy had a wonderful experience working with Lake Lawn. “Jaci was our coordinator. Between her attentiveness and the staff treating us like family, they took our wedding from wonderful to unforgettable. Everyone from the front desk to the spa made us feel like our wedding was the most important thing happening at the resort.”

The ceremony was held in the Great Room at Lake Lawn. “The room is so grand that we didn’t decorate it much — it didn’t need it! We had a single Christmas tree in the middle and let the natural gold glow take center stage.” Hilarity ensued when the Ring Bearer mixed up the rings, and the Best Man and Man of Honor had to switch rings in front of everyone. “It added a laugh to an otherwise very romantic and serious ceremony,” Amy says. “We built our ceremony around the Claddagh, an Irish symbol of friendship, loyalty, and love. We had three readings that signified these pieces.”

For the reception, the celebration moved to Lake Lawn’s Queens Table. Amy calls it “the greatest Christmas party ever!” The bride and groom focused all their efforts on highlighting the wonders of Wisconsin throughout the evening. “We wanted to showcase Wisconsin specialties, since most of our guests were visiting Wisconsin for the first time. We had beer cheese soup and Sprecher sodas and Spotted Cow on draft.”

On the menu, catered by Lake Lawn, guests enjoyed a coursed dinner of green salad, rolls with Wisconsin butter, raspberry sorbet, and entrees that included pan-seared petit filets, apple-almond-stuffed chicken breast, herbed potatoes, and green beans.

Dessert came courtesy of Julie Michelle Cakes. “We had two flavors and everyone was served a slice of each!” There was chocolate cake filled with boysenberry, champagne, and fresh raspberries, and lemon cake filled with champagne and fresh blueberries. A hot cocoa bar was a delicious and extra-special treat. “Lake Lawn lovingly set up the cocoa bar for us. We had dark hot cocoa and white hot cocoa and all the toppings you could imagine. It was fun and elegant and really made the whole party feel like Christmas!”

Aside from scrumptious hot chocolate, Amy and Andrew agree that seeing the reception room for the first time was one of their favorite moments of the day. “Jaci let us go in before we opened the room to guests. We were floored with how perfect it was. It’s not often you get to see something you’ve only imagined in your head come to life. It was beyond magical and we will remember that forever.”
