JD and Brandon's Wedding

Brandon & JD’s Fall Wedding at Tuscan Hall in Waukesha

May 4, 2020

This Is It

JD and Brandon met in March of 2015 while JD was bartending at This Is It. “The moment our eyes locked, we knew our relationship was going to be something truly special.” The two had their first date at North Star American Bistro in Brookfield where JD’s friend Maxwell was the bartender. “We talked, ate, drank, and really hit it off.” Things got serious quickly, and in December of 2015, JD moved in with Brandon and Brandon’s best friend, Melissa.

Planning the Proposal

While all living under one roof, both Brandon and JD began talking secretly with roommate Melissa about popping the question. One day in May, JD asked Brandon to meet him at the bridge near their house. “I was waiting there with a very important question,” JD says. “Brandon said yes without skipping a beat.” To top it off, JD’s sister Alex was there with her camera to capture the happy moment.

Saying “I do” at Tuscan Hall

Brandon and JD planned a fall wedding, hosting everything from the rehearsal dinner to the ceremony and reception at Tuscan Hall in the town of Waukesha. The ceremony was officiated by Maxwell, the same dear friend who had bartended during JD and Brandon’s first date. “The ceremony was extremely personal to us and our relationship. It was about 10 minutes long, which is exactly what we were hoping for!” Brandon and JD agree their favorite thing about the ceremony was standing up in front of family and friends to profess their love.

At the reception, all catering and bartending was handled by Tuscan Hall, with the addition of table linens from Cover it with Class. “The reception was beautiful and exactly how we planned it to be. Tuscan Hall provided an absolutely stellar meal and service. Everyone we’ve spoken to has told us how much they were impressed by the quick, excellent service and how they were even more so impressed by the food.”

The wedding cake came courtesy of Simma’s. “We had yellow and blue cupcakes for our guests.” Blue is JD’s favorite color; yellow is Brandon’s. Later in the evening, Tuscan Hall set up a grilled cheese and tomato soup bar as a late-night snack.

A Dance to Remember

After dinner, a dance party erupted when the DJ started playing. But first, the first dances: “We planned a surprise for our mothers and best friends. Both of our moms chose the exact same song to dance with us for the mother-son dance, so we decided to surprise them and dance at the same time. We also did a surprise best-friend dance. We chose the song ‘You’re My Best Friend’ by Queen and asked our Women of Honor — JD’s younger sister and Brandon’s best friend Melissa — to dance with us.”

Advice from the grooms to anyone planning a wedding:

“Take a breath. Ask for help. The day will fly by, so take in every single moment you can and live it up!”
