Brittney & Rob’s Wedding at The Hay Loft

A River Proposal

Brittney and Rob, both from Jefferson, Wisconsin, met through two good friends. Almost three years ago, Rob asked Brittney to take a boat ride with him. “We live on the river and love to do water sports and enjoy time on the boat,” she says. “As we were going down the river, Rob started to play country love songs that talked about marriage. I thought nothing of it.” Brittney turned away for a moment only to turn back around to find Rob with the ring. “Now we have a special place on the river to always remember that day!”

A Wedding at The Hay Loft

Because Brittney was in grad school at the time, the couple planned a two-year engagement. They landed on an August wedding at The Hay Loft—a family-owned and updated barn in Watertown, Wisconsin. Brittney wore a Maggie Sottero gown with the bridesmaids wearing shades of light purple, silver, and grey. “Rob and I each had nine of the best people in our lives at our side.”

Hayloft Reception

The reception was held inside the barn at The Hay Loft. “It’s a beautiful barn and we danced to ‘From This Moment On’ by Shania Twain for our first dance.” To decorate the space, the couple focused on greenery and a fun DIY when guests walked in the door. “We made a polaroid picture board. It lit up! When people arrived, they snapped a picture of themselves, wrote a note on the photo, and hung it up.”

Dessert and drinks were a special touch too: Donuts from a local bakery and two signature drinks. “A Captain and Coke (his favorite) and Amaretto and Sprite (her favorite).” To Brittney and Rob, the best part of the day was simply looking around and seeing all of their friends and family in one room.

Final Thoughts

One thing Brittney wishes she knew going into wedding planning: “It’s all going to work out in the end. The only thing that matters is that you are both there.”
