Kaitlyn & JoJo’s Magical Wedding at Fête of Wales

From West Allis to Facebook to Nashville

Believe it or not, Kaitlyn and JoJo went to the same middle school, high school, and college—but they never met or spoke to each other. Until one day, that is.

The two happened to be Facebook friends, as so many are with people they don’t really know. One day, Kaitlyn posted a photo of herself at a Bucks block party downtown, and JoJo liked the photo. He kept liking more of her pictures after that, and Kaitlyn finally decided to message JoJo out of the blue. The funny thing is, Kaitlyn says, “If you know me, you’d know I’d never, ever do something like that.” But thank goodness she did, because the rest is history!

The first big trip the two took together was to Nashville, Tennessee. “We ended up watching a Florida Georgia Line concert in the street,” Kaitlyn recalls. “On the plane ride home, JoJo told me that during the concert was the moment he knew he wanted to marry me.” A year later, the couple went back to Nashville, and JoJo proposed on the rooftop of the FGL House—the Florida Georgia Line bar.

Pandemic Planning

JoJo and Kaitlyn had hoped for a May 2020 wedding, but Covid uprooted their plans. Through the heartbreak, they decided to change to an April 2021 date—luckily, with all of their vendors also able to make the switch. “It took me a while, but I do know that we would not have been able to have the wedding that we wanted in 2020,” Kaitlyn says. “Our new wedding date gave guests the chance to feel safe and comfortable while celebrating with many other people.”

When the time came for the big day, it seemed to the bride and groom that this was one of the first big events people were able to attend since the pandemic began, and that energy was palpable. “We were so thankful we were able to have such a perfect day, despite a few twists and turns!”

Fête of Wales Wedding

Kaitlyn and JoJo planned to have their ceremony and reception at Fête of Wales, with dinner catering by Tuscan Hall. Kaitlyn found her gorgeous gown at Bucci’s Bridal, and the couple exchanged rings from Kessler’s. The moment that sticks with Kaitlyn the most was seeing JoJo’s face as she walked down the aisle. “I’ve told him that I always look at the groom’s face rather than the bride’s. His definitely lived up to my expectations!”

Following the ceremony, appetizers were served. There was Italian bruschetta, pretzel bites with cheesy mustard, and Italian meatballs. For dinner, Tuscan Hall Catering served plated Caesar salads and a buffet of Wisconsin-style mac and cheese, garlic red mashed potatoes, Airline Mediterranean chicken, and braised short ribs. Because the bride and groom aren’t really cake people, they opted for a rice krispie treat display instead. “They were a huge hit! An easy grab-and-go dessert.”

Special Moments

There are a couple unforgettable moments that stick out for Kaitlyn at the reception. First, her coworkers surprised her with a video they made with her present and past students. “The kids answered questions like ‘What should JoJo do to make Ms. Miszewski happy?’ and ‘Why will Ms. Miszewski make a great wife?’ It definitely brought tears to my eyes!”

Next up, the groom himself surprised Kaitlyn with a special performance. “JoJo and a couple of his friends had a rap group in high school and I have always wanted to catch a live performance!” Kaitlyn says. Although the group hasn’t “rapped” together in years, they coordinated with the DJ to surprise Kaitlyn and make it happen. “Many of our guests actually remembered the song and were singing along with them!”

A Bit of Advice…

One tip for brides who are wedding planning: Spring for the videographer! “If you’re considering a videographer, I would 100% do it,” Kaitlyn says. “We were up in the air at the beginning of the wedding planning process, but we’re so thankful we went for it! We can’t wait to watch our videos on our anniversaries and even with our kids one day.”
