Bre and Ryan at the Tinsmith

A Modern, Minimalist Wedding at The Tinsmith in Madison

November 6, 2024

A dusty rose, romatic wedding of two UW-Madison Alumni

How They Met

Bre and Ryan at the Kollege Klub, a bar in Madison during their senior year of college, where they were introduced by a roommate. Although not meeting until their senior year of college, they quickly realized how much they had in common and found it crazy that they didn’t cross paths, despite growing up in neighboring towns and having mutual friends with similar interests!

How They Got Engaged

While living together in Scottsdale, Arizona, Ryan planned a weekend road trip to a surprise location which turned out to be Long Beach, California. Ryan knew Bre’s love for the beach and knew he wanted to propose on the beach, so he got an Airbnb steps away from the water on the Long Beach peninsula. They took a walk on the beach before dinner where he proposed. It was a little chilly and the beach was quiet, so they had a special moment to ourselves during the sunset.

The Planning Process

Wedding Date: February 3, 2024
Guest Count: 160
Style/Theme: Modern, minimalist, romantic
Wedding Colors: Dusty Pinks
What was your favorite design?

“We loved our velvet furniture set from Velvet Rentals – it made the space feel cozy, romantic, and elevated. We also loved The Tinsmith’s long, family style tables that allowed us to create modern and simplistic tablescapes.”

Weddings Looks

Dress: Bliss Bridal
Menswear: Suit Shop, Dress Shirt and Bow Ties from Amazon
Hair: Lotus Artistry (Thien Huong Vuong)
Makeup: Katie Steib
Rings: Brilliant Earth and Mejuri

How many dresses did you try on?
“I probably tried on 10, but the one I picked was one of the first I put on and I kept coming back to it after I tried on more dresses. So I trusted my gut and the opinions of my mom and sister to pick it as the one!”

Ceremony Details

Location: The Tinsmith
Photographer: Wild Elegance
Flowers: Magnolia Floral

“We asked my Uncle to be our officiant, as we wanted someone who knew both of us to marry us. He was a first time officiant so it meant a lot to us that he was willing to take on the role! Ryan and I wrote our own ceremony script that told the story of our love. It felt special that we got to personalize everything that was going to be said and made us more comfortable going into the ceremony knowing exactly what to expect!”

Reception Details

Location: The Tinsmith

“We loved The Tinsmith’s central Madison location, and how it’s so beautiful on its own without any decor at all! We were so drawn to all the greenery and natural light inside and it’s modern feel”

Food and Drink: Blue Plate Catering

“We had a taco buffet by Blue Plate catering! We knew we wanted something besides your typical wedding food and we also love Mexican so it was the perfect option for us. We opted out of a signature cocktail, but made sure Spotted Cow was flowing. Our late night Ian’s Mac and Cheese Pizza with sides of ranch ran out in record time. We stuck with classic sheet cakes for desert and ended up with zero leftovers which was a win!”

Music & Entertainment: The Acoustix
First Dance Song: Pushing Up Daisies by Brothers Osborn

“Our favorite part about our reception was truly having all of our closest friends and family in the same place. We wanted everyone to be able to mingle and dance and have a worry-free and fun night, including our wedding party! We did all of our group photos before the reception and opted out of a grand march so our wedding party could enjoy our cocktail hour. Surprising our guests with an appearance from Bucky Badger was also a highlight as we had several UW-Madison Alumni attending! That got everyone excited and out to the dance floor.”

Looking Back

Three Words that Described the Day: Intimate, Lovely, Social
Biggest Wedding Splurge:
Bride’s Reception Dress…”I decided I wanted to do an outfit change last minute, which also meant last minute alterations!”

What vendor impressed you the most?

“They were all really easy to work with and we were impressed how well they all worked and communicated together to bring our vision to life, Stress-Free! We especially loved how all of our florals turned out, and how our Coordinator, Laura, worked with our florist, Jaimy, and Constanza of Velvet Rentals to bring our mood boards to life. The venue was truly stunning when we walked in with it all set up.”

What moment sticks with you the most?

“The speeches – Our Parents, MOH, and Best Man truly did such an amazing job and had us and our guests laughing, smiling, and in tears. They made us feel so loved and special.”

What tips or advice would you share with future couples?

“A day of wedding coordinator is a must to keep the day stress-free and enjoyable for your family and wedding party! Stick to what you know you like when picking your dress, colors, theme, and decor! It can be easy to be influenced (and sometimes overwhelmed) by social media wedding trends, and they are a great place to source inspiration from, but staying true to your personal style, wishes, and budget, will make your day feel all that more unique and special to you in the end.”
