A Color Me Pretty – Milwaukee Yacht Club Wedding

January 8, 2025

Color and Coastal Chic Make Up This Waterfront Wedding.

How They Met

Paula and David met on a dating app, which turned into a seven hour long first date! The date consisted of pizza, wine and a walk by Whitefish Bay. It lasted so long that the police had to come down and let them know the park was closed. The more they got to know each other, the more they knew it was meant to be. Paula and David, both having two children and sharing a passion for personal growth, knew right off the bat the universe had a plan for them to meet!

How They Got Engaged

After buying a home together, David had requested to go on a walk for a couple of weeks with Paula. Still in the unpacking phase, she finally agreed it was a good time for them to get out. Heading down to the Big Bay of Whitefish Bay, where they had their first date, it was a calm and sunny afternoon so they headed down to the beach to look for sea glass. It was then that David got down on one knee and popped the question. Paula excitedly said “YES” to David’s mother’s engagement ring.

The Planning Process

Wedding Date: June 22, 2024
Guest Count: 115
Wedding Colors: Ice Blue and Light Pink

Style and Theme of the Wedding:
“We love color, coastal chic and simplicity. Our vision was for color, the natural beauty of Lake Michigan and the yacht club to stand out. We knew we had to find a venue that gave us a natural view of the lake. Our goal was to make our wedding like one big dinner party; elevated and fun.

What was your favorite design element?
“All of the floral our florist, Florasynthesis, created! We also had a Photo Booth everyone loved and had a blast taking pictures together.”

Weddings Looks

Dress: Eva Lendel from Luxe Bridal Rack in Chicago
Menswear: Men’s Wearhouse
Bridesmaids Dresses: Birdy Grey
Hair: Lumani Beauty (Bride) and CSG Wedding Hair (Bridesmaids)
Makeup: Blush by Brittany

How many dresses did you try on?
“It was my very first dress! My best friends, Nina and Heather, came with me. We drove to Chicago and the stylist chose six dresses, as soon as I tried on the first one we all immediately started crying and said this is the one. I still tried on the other five, and loved them but knew the first choice, so much that I cancelled my appointment with the next bridal shop.”

Ceremony Details and Favorite Moments:
“The favorite moment was saying our vows and turning around to face all of our beautiful family and friends who were there celebrating our love. The cheers, the tears, the smiles and the love we felt.” The ceremony was held outside on the Yacht Club grounds under the pavilion with twinkling lights. A musician and violinist played as the wedding party walked down the aisle.

Reception Details

Location: Milwaukee Yacht Club
Food and Drink: Milwaukee Yacht Club
First Dance Song:
“Amazing Day” by Coldplay

Why Did You Choose Your Venue:
“We knew we had to be by the lake! We had our first date by the lake, it’s where David proposed, where we take our children for family time, and where we go on night walks to star gaze.”

Reception Details and Favorite Moments:
“It is so hard to choose a favorite moment. Walking in announcing our new marriage along with our wedding party, the speeches from our best man and maid of honor, dancing with family. Not to forget David singing ‘Rock Me Mama Like a Wagon Wheel’ with his groomsmen…and my daughter, Aria, immediately changing out of her dress after the ceremony into her onesy pajamas.”

Food and Drink Details:
The signature drink was a French 75, and all the food was catered from the Milwaukee Yacht Club. The menu consisted of roasted beef tenderloin, roasted free range chicken breast, pan seared Scottish salmon and wild mushroom ravioli. Dessert was also from the Milwaukee Yacht Club; including an ice cream bar with all the fixings, an assortment of cookies and flourless chocolate cake. Late night snacks were also provided with a taco and nacho bar. David and Paula then shared a tuxedo cake in their hotel room to kick off their honeymoon.

Looking Back

Three Words that Described the Day: Incredible, Joyous and Lovable

Special Tips or Advice to Future Couples?
“Have a best friend who will help you organize and drive all your cargo for the day. Someone to help pack up at night and drive it all back. Find your person!”
