Katharine and Zach at Red Circle Inn with Marit Williams

Vintage Fall Wedding at Red Circle Inn

April 16, 2025

A Romantic Celebration in Emerald, Terracotta, and Autumn Hues

How They Met

Katharine and Zach met in 11th grade while sharing a desk in an overcrowded AP U.S. History class. What began as shared notes and midterm games slowly grew into a lasting connection—one they wouldn’t realize the full meaning of until nearly a decade later.

How They Got Engaged

Zach asked Katharine if she wanted to go for a hike with her dog Tess at one of their favorite parks outside the city. It felt like a normal, low-key Sunday—until he pulled out a ring and proposed along the trail. She said yes, Tess approved!

The Planning Process

What was your favorite design?
“My favorite part of our design was how we included personal details. Our wedding was a true blending of our families and our various traditions. Our design was mostly inspired by our Italian and German backgrounds. Our friends and family really pulled through to bring our vision together and make our day beautiful. While our florist did an amazing job on all bouquets (later served as head table centerpieces), boutonnières, and cake design, my mom actually made each round table centerpiece flower arrangement. My aunt hand-sewed over 200 little pouches filled with 6 Jordan Almonds (an Italian tradition) for each wedding guest. Each table also included a traditional lace doily from Zach’s Oma which were brought over from Germany. We also included personal vintage cake/dessert stands from my nonna. We even go to drive up to the reception in my uncle’s vintage 1936 Auburn Speedster. All of these items tied in perfectly with our vintage rentals and beautiful florals. Further personalized designs included our customized tattoos (featuring us and our dog) and customized dog napkins.”

How many dresses did you try on?
“I probably tried on at least 15 different dresses. I was actually on my way to buy a different dress when I found my final dress choice. I had been going back and forth between one dress, but had decided I wanted to buy it. I went that day with a friend to try it on one last time and then buy it. However, when I tried it on, I was no longer excited about it. I began to worry that I would be leaving the store without buying anything and truly worried that I would never find my dress. That was until my friend pointed out one dress on a mannequin. It was a new arrival. It looked like the dress I had been describing the whole time, so we decided I should try it on to be sure. I knew once I tried that dress on that it was the one!”

Ceremony Details

Location: St. Mary Catholic Faith Community
Photographer: Marit Williams Photography
Photo stops: Delafield Hotel, St. Mary Catholic Faith Community, Delafield Fish Hatchery Building, Liberty Park (in Delafield), and Red Circle Inn

“Our favorite part of the ceremony was having Father Chuck Schramm marry us,” Katharine shared. “He’s known our family for generations—from being my dad’s priest in grade school to counseling my grandfather and marrying my sister in 2022.” His homily was personal and heartfelt, honoring loved ones who couldn’t be there. A close second favorite? “Hiring Gabriel’s Horns string quartet—it made everything sound so beautiful.”

Reception Details

Location: Red Circle Inn
Food and Drink: Red Circle Inn
Cake/Dessert: Sweet Perfections

What made you choose your venue?
“We actually walked through the venue for the first time while it was under construction. Even so, we fell in love with it. We loved how you could feel its history. The Red Circle Inn is Wisconsin’s oldest supper club. It still has the vintage sconces, the original Pabst bar, and beautiful dark wood trimming throughout the venue. We also loved that we have two rooms in this venue. While cocktail hour can be hosted in the beautiful Provimi room, dinner can be set up in the main Pabst room. Then, you can transition easily from dinner in the Pabst room to the reception in the Provimi room without needing to move tables or “turn over” the other room. This set-up also allows you to move freely between indoors/outdoors during the cocktail hour and reception since the Provimi room connects with the outdoor patio. It also means that guests can shift to a quieter location or have more space away from the music and dancing later on. This was a great option for our older guests who wanted more room to sit down and converse with family and friends.

Music & Entertainment: Gabriel’s Horns for ceremony, Chicago Mule Band and Big Sand Productions for reception
Dance Lessons: “Personal favor from friend – but she deserves credit!” Aynsley Parker who does lessons part-time.
First Dance Song: “Simply The Best” by Tina Turner

“My favorite part of the reception was the dancing,” Katharine said. “I just wanted the dance floor full all night—and it was!” They kicked things off with two hours of live music from the Chicago Mule Band, followed by a DJ to close out the night. “It felt like the best of both worlds.” Another highlight? “Instead of glass clinking, guests had to sing a snippet of a song with ‘love’ in it to get us to kiss. It was hilarious and set such a fun tone for the night.”

Looking Back

Biggest Wedding Splurge: “Probably a tie between Photography and music!”

Which vendor impressed you the most?
“Honestly, we had the best experience with all of our vendors,” Katharine shared. “Marit, our photographer, was outstanding—I can’t sing her praises enough—and we loved working with our videographer Kelly.” The music was another standout. “Chicago Mule Band and Big Sand Productions were incredible—we’re still hearing from guests about how fun the dance floor was.” Katharine also noted the stunning florals from Flora Elements, “so many people have commented on how beautiful the flowers were, especially now that the photos are out.” As for the food? “Red Circle Inn delivered—people said it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had.” And the string quartet from Gabriel’s Horns? “They made the ceremony feel absolutely magical.”

Three Words that Described the Day: Romantic, Vintage, Old Wisconsin

What moment sticks with you the most?
“The whole day comes back to me in flashes,” Katharine said. “Getting ready with my wedding party, seeing myself fully dressed, and then the moment the doors opened and I saw Zach—I felt this immediate sense of calm.” From singing on the trolley to arriving at Red Circle Inn, sharing laughs during speeches, and their first dance (complete with a lift they practiced for weeks), each moment stands out. “What I remember most is just feeling so happy and so grateful—we’ll never be able to thank everyone enough for making it our favorite day.”

What tips or advice would you share with future couples?
“At first, I didn’t think the little details mattered,” Katharine admitted. “But my mom always said people notice when you make the design your own and think about your guests—and she was right.” It wasn’t until she heard the heartfelt thanks from guests that she realized how much those thoughtful touches meant. “Things like our personalized His & Her gift bags at the hotel and blankets by the fire made a big impact.”
