A Vibrant Celebration & Wedding at Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel in Milwaukee

Bold Hues, Artistic Details, and Modern Romance in the Heart of Downtown Milwaukee

How They Met

Abbey and Izaac first met in their Groups and Teams Communication class at UW–Milwaukee. From the moment Izaac saw Abbey walk into the room, he was captivated. Though they weren’t in the same group that semester, they often exchanged glances across the classroom and chatted briefly about class topics. The real connection began the following semester when they both found themselves in another class together again. Familiar faces on the first day, they chose to sit together, and over time their conversations before class became a regular routine. Izaac made it a point to get to know Abbey better, keeping things easy and genuine, even after a few politely declined hangout invitations.

Their friendship grew during a study session Abbey organized before an exam, one that Izaac happened to be the only one to attend, which thrilled Izaac. The two spent the afternoon laughing and studying, pretending to be a couple answering questions. Both, receiving an A on that exam. From that day, their bond deepened. When the semester ended, Izaac invited Abbey out for a celebratory drink, and this time, she said yes. The night ended with a kiss and a promise of more to come.

How They Got Engaged

Izaac had planned nearly every detail of his proposal to Abbey. He wanted it to be perfect; by the lake, surrounded by family, captured in photos, and followed by great food and celebration. His plan was to propose at Lakeshore Park, a beautiful spot along Lake Michigan near downtown Milwaukee, and then head to Merriment Social in the Third Ward, where both of their families would be waiting to celebrate.

When the moment finally came, nerves took over. As Izaac dropped to one knee, he completely forgot the speech he had rehearsed and accidentally kept his sunglasses on…but none of that mattered. Abbey said yes, and the joy of the moment was captured by his uncle and aunt, who had been hiding nearby with cameras ready.

After the proposal, Izaac led Abbey to Merriment Social, where the surprises continued. As they pulled up, Abbey noticed his mom’s car out front and started to piece things together. When they walked inside, both families erupted in cheers, and Abbey was overwhelmed with happy tears. The night was filled with laughter, love, and celebration—a perfect start to the next chapter of their lives together.

The Planning Process

Wedding Date: August 16, 2025
Guest Count: 180
Wedding Colors: Green, Pink, Purple, Blue, Orange, Peach and Yellow
Wedding Shows Attended: Wonderful World of Weddings
Wedding Planner: Ambrosia Events

What was your favorite design element?
“Our favorite design element was the dance floor and the floral ceiling installation. We kept this part a surprise from all of our guests, family and friends. Instead of the traditional black and white, our dance floor featured colorful squares. Above, a floral garden with disco balls hung from the ceiling, creating a magical atmosphere. We wanted our guests to feel like they stepped into a ‘garden rave’ the moment they hit the dance floor.”

Weddings Looks

Dress: Vera’s House of Bridals – Justin Alexander
Menswear:
DuBois Formalwear

How many dresses did you try on?
“I tried on 11 dresses and was beginning to hit a wall. My best friend and Matron of Honor, Katie, took one final walk around the showroom. She looked at me and said, “Go back to your original vision, and let’s pull the one that fits that description.” We pulled the one.

Leading up to dress shopping day, I knew I wanted a Justin Alexander gown. When I put this dress on and realized what I was wearing, I instantly started crying—it was the exact Justin Alexander dress I had on my wedding mood board. It was meant to be.”

Ceremony Details

Location: Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel
Photographer: Tori Phillips Photography
Florist: Ambrosia Events Florist

Ceremony Decor:
“Ambrosia Events designed white drapes with candles down the aisle and a floral arch behind the alter. We had a violinist and cellist play throughout the ceremony and into cocktail hour. It was intimate and perfect.”

Ceremony Details and Favorite Moments:
“Because our ceremony and reception were held in the same space, I wanted each part to feel distinct. For the ceremony, I envisioned a clean, white, floral aesthetic to set a serene tone. That way, the reception would be a visual surprise for our guests. We chose Izaac’s aunt to officiate the ceremony, and it was incredibly special—it felt so comfortable and natural.”

Reception Details

Location: Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel
First Dance Song: ‘Best Part’ by Daniel Caesar & H.E.R.

Why Did You Choose Your Venue:
“We’re huge fans of Saint Kate! We love stopping in for a drink before a show or catching one of their many talented live bands. And I can’t forget to mention—they have the best espresso martini in town! If you never been, its a must stop in Milwaukee! The food and drinks are out of this world. The Art Gallery is open to the public and features a different Artist every few months.

During one of our many visits, while sipping on that very drink, it just clicked. We looked at each other and agreed: we wanted to share this magical and absolutely beautiful space with all our loved ones. We even hosted our Welcome Party on Friday night in the Art Gallery, and after the wedding, an after party at the Lobby Bar. It truly felt like a destination wedding, as most of our guests stayed there all weekend. Which is exactly what we wanted our guest to experience. Easy, convenient, and tons to experience!

Reception Decor:
“Ambrosia Events truly brought my vision to life. We had a mix of round tables and farm tables, each styled with bulb vases, colorful taper candles, and small votive candles. Half the tables were dressed in peach tablecloths, while the others featured a vibrant green/kiwi hue. Flowers filled the room and surrounded the head table, turning the ballroom into a fantasy garden bursting with energy and color.”

Reception Details and Favorite Moments:
“Our reception was out-of-this-world amazing! The colors and vibes were bouncing off the walls. Our DJ, Rolando, truly made the night special—he played the best music, and guests were literally asking for a link to his playlist.

My best friend and bridesmaid was in charge of dance floor props, and she delivered! She brought Fatheads of our cats, foam glowsticks, light-up tambourines, and money guns. The best part? Her sister designed custom $100 bills featuring us and our cats. The money was everywhere! With all the dance floor accessories, everyone was excited to jump in and dance. At one point, Izaac and I looked around and almost all 180 of our guest were on the dance floor dancing and jumping around.”

Looking Back

Three Words that Described the Day:
“Joyful, Radiant and Magical”

What Vendors Impressed You the Most?
“We loved all our vendors so much! Rolando from Van Rixel Productions was absolutely top notch. Ambrosia was exactly what we wanted in a wedding planner—a one-stop shop for everything we needed to make the day what it was. Jasmine (hair) and Lindsay (make-up) are incredibly talented; everyone felt confident and beautiful walking down the aisle.

And Saint Kate Art Hotel… WOW. The food, the service, the experience—it was everything and more!

Last but certainly not least, our photographer Tori Phillips made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera. She truly became one of the guests, blending in seamlessly while capturing every moment perfectly.”

What Moment Sticks With You the Most?
“This is such a hard question! From the moment the doors opened and I saw everyone looking at me as I walked down the aisle to my husband, to the heartfelt speeches our dads, Best Man, Matron and Maid of Honor gave—it was all unforgettable. I also can’t forget the quiet moment we shared alone in the ballroom before our guests came in for the reception. Everything that happened on August 16th is a memory we’ll cherish forever. Being in a room full of love and support is a feeling that words can’t describe—just happy tears!”

Special Tips or Advice to Future Couples?
“Take moments to walk away with each other or to look around the room and soak up all the love that is around you. It truly does go by so fast!”
