Ask the Right Questions – Videography

No bride or groom has ever regretted hiring a wedding videographer to document their day. Although one of the bigger ticket wedding costs, it can also be considered your best money spent. Here, some qualifying questions while considering your options.

Let’s start with the broad strokes.

• How long have you been doing this?
• How would you describe your artistic style?
• Can you show us some previous weddings you have filmed? Can I talk with some past couples you have worked with?
• Are you able to provide photography as well?
• How far in advance do you recommend we book your services? What is the cost of your deposit?
• Will you be the actual my videographer orr someone else on your staff? Can I meet them?
• Have you worked with my venue(s)? How about my vendors?

Lights, Camera, Action!

• What sort of equipment do you use? Do you deploy drones for scenic overhead B-Roll?
• How many assistants will be with you? Will there be a stationary camera over the ceremony and reception sites?
• How many hours will you be filming? What if we run over?
• Should you or a team member fall ill, do you have a contingency plan?
• What special accommodations can be made for our niche wedding?
• How far are you willing to travel without an additional fee?

Post-Production.

• What are our options for finishing touches, for instance soundtrack, titles and captions, and filters?
• Should we need you to edit out certain guests, moments we wish not to relive, or unwelcome speeches, how should we communicate that to you, and when?
• Can you provide a ballpark idea of how many minutes our video will be?
• Will we also be provided raw footage?
• When you do provide our video, will it be issued on a flash drive, CD-ROM or DVD, or online download?
• Will you also post our video on Vimeo or YouTube? If so, for how long?
• Can we expect high definition video? Is there an extra fee for this?
• Can you provide an itemized table of contents you expect to capture?
• How long will it be before we receive our finished product?
