Choosing the Perfect Shoes for Your Big Day

Finding the perfect wedding shoes is perhaps one of the most important decisions you make for the event. While style may be a top priority in your search, comfort isn’t something you can ignore either. You’re going to spend the entire day on your feet, dancing and enjoying your guests. The last thing you want to deal with as part of that is foot pain.

You have to consider that you’re potentially preparing for a day that’s 15 hours or longer, and for much of that, you’ll be standing. You’re also going to be taking photos that last you for a lifetime. Your partner will have a similar decision to make, to ensure that you’re both prepared to make the most of this important day.

From unconventional options, such as women’s supportive sneakers or men’s comfortable sneakers, to something more glitzy and glamorous, there are plenty of choices. The following are some tips to help you narrow it down and find the perfect pair of shoes for your wedding.

Find a Dress First

Even for the biggest shoe-lover, finding a dress first is important. You might think you find the shoes first, but hold off if your dress choice isn’t finalized.

You want your footwear to complement your dress, and there are factors like length and style that are then going to influence your shoe choice.

You may find you want to glam it up with your shoes if your dress design is more understated, or perhaps on the other end of the spectrum, make sure your shoes simpler to balance out a very elegant and detailed dress.

Give Yourself Time

Don’t wait until the last minute to choose your shoes, even when waiting until after you’ve bought your dress.

You want to try different styles, and you should also bring your shoes to your dress-fitting and alteration sessions each time. Your partner will need to do the same as they’re being fitted for their suit or tuxedo.

Then, the length of your dress or their suit can be tailored for the shoe height.

Always Try Them On

Online shopping gives us so many options at our fingertips, but before committing to your final pair of wedding shoes, make sure you try them on.

You might try them on in the store, or you could order them online but make sure you choose a retailer with a flexible return policy in case they don’t work.

Stand around at home for at least an hour in the shoes before you make a final decision.

Don’t Be Afraid to Be Bold

Your shoes can end up being a good place to go a little bold, even if your dress is somewhat traditional. For example, you could go with a classic sneaker for an unexpected twist or a vibrantly colored shoe. You can also match your shoes to your partner’s outfit in some way, like matching with their tie.

Consider Your Venue

Where you’re getting married certainly plays a role in your footwear choice. You want to ensure that if you’re getting married on the sand, for example, the shoes you choose will allow you to walk gracefully.

Prioritize Comfort

Finally, the last thing you want is to have your wedding memories overshadowed by discomfort from your shoes. While style is absolutely something you should consider, comfort can’t be on the back burner. The comfort factor is why so many brides are opting to wear sneakers now. It’s always fun to have photos where your dress is exposing a pair of quirky sneakers. Your bridesmaids might do the same.
