Though they’re both Lake Geneva born and raised, Alia and Eric didn’t cross paths until they started working at the same restaurant. “We had never met, yet we lived right down the road from each other.” When the two got engaged, they had been living in Phoenix for just shy of a year. “We were home visiting Wisconsin for Thanksgiving.” Eric took Alia on a walk along the Lake Geneva path and proposed there. “Because we met and shared a lot of early memories together in Lake Geneva, it was important to us to get engaged and married there.”
Alia and Eric planned a September 7th wedding at Hawks View Golf Club. “The style was modern, yet classic,” Alia says. “Very fresh and clean with a lot of greenery. We had accent colors of burgundy and gold.” Alia found her Essence of Australia gown at Bon Bon Belle bridal boutique in Burlington.
Everything from the ceremony to pictures to the reception was held exclusively at Hawks View. “Becky at Hawks View was awesome! She catered to our every need the day of.” Becky even overheard Alia saying to Eric that she’d like to take shots first-thing after the ceremony. “There was a server waiting for us with two tequila shots. Becky was so fun to work with!”
Alia admits to being nervous before walking down the aisle. “My wedding coordinator pulled me aside and talked to me about her experience with anxiety. She gave me a stone that she uses to calm herself down. It was very special to me and I kept it in my hand during the ceremony.” It also helped that Eric’s cousin, who is very much like a brother to Alia, peeked around Eric’s shoulder to grin at her and calm her down. “Everyone says it, but once we really got going, I truly did not see anyone but Eric. I’ll never forget the way he smiled at me and the way I felt in that moment.”
Dinner and drinks were all catered by Hawks View. “The food was fantastic! Hawks View did an excellent job. Our dessert was delicious, and we made sure to choose at least one unique flavor for the assortment of cupcakes. We went with lavender—super fun!” For a late-night snack, Hawks View brought out pizza: “A hit and absolutely necessary!”
One of Eric and Alia’s favorite moments of the day was just after dinner as everyone headed to the dance floor. “We sat alone at the head table for a moment, taking everything in. We talked about how happy we felt and how lucky we were to have so many amazing people in our lives. This was our moment to reflect during the madness of the day.” In addition to that: “Our friends and family are the ultimate dancers and that will always, always be our favorite part!”
