Matt and Ashley met in their high school chemistry class — he was a senior and she was a junior. On their seven-year anniversary, Matt came home from his morning run and suggested the two take the dog for a walk in Minooka Park. “He put on his nice jeans, a button-down shirt, and good shoes,” Ashley says. “So, heck, I did too! We walked about a mile, came up the hill, and there was a table with a red blanket on it, a single red rose, two long-stem wine glasses, and a bottle of wine Matt had ordered that said ‘Ashley, will you marry me?’ Matt’s brother-in-law was even camped out in his car, taking pictures.”
To prep for the big day, Ashley, her mom, her mother-in-law, and all of her bridesmaids went to the Bridal Expo Sheraton Milwaukee Brookfield. Ashely found her dress at Savvy Bride and Matt chose formalwear from Tres Chic. “Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve wanted blue as my wedding color,” Ashley says. “The bridesmaid dresses were exactly what I wanted. The guys looked so handsome in their grey tuxes, too — a perfect compliment to the ladies!” On the eve of the wedding, Matt and Ashley planned a lake country rehearsal dinner at the Seven Seas in Delafield.
The two chose the Legend at Brandybrook as the reception site for their chic, elegant wedding. “Brandy brook was the perfect combo of both of our tastes. The outside looks like a castle (for Ashley), but the inside has vaulted ceilings with wood beams — more rustic (for Matt). There’s a gorgeous wrap-around porch, too, so guests could enjoy the beautiful weather. We also loved the staircase, which added a grand touch as guests walked in.”
For cocktail hour, Matt and Ashley chose a wine station and passed hors d’oeuvres of Swedish meatballs, sun-dried tomato chicken meatballs, antipasto skewers, and mozzarella wontons. Dinner was steak and chicken marsala. “Both were outstanding. All of the food options sounded so good, it was hard to narrow down our choices!” As a midnight snack, there was pizza and mini grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup.
For décor, Ashley relied on the fabulous collaboration of Creative Floral Designs and Something Borrowed & More. “They were both on the same page and were truly able to bring my vision to life,” Ashley says. “I loved how excited they got, talking to us about our flowers and designs. It shows they had a genuine interest in our wedding day, and that was really special to me. My wedding bouquet was picture perfect: blue orchids, mini white calla lilies, and white roses topped with clear crystal rhinestones. Matt’s boutonniere matched my bouquet, and the deep plum in the bridesmaids’ bouquets was the perfect pop of color that I wanted.”
Ashley’s favorite moments of the day were the first dance and the moment when Matt read a sweet letter he’d written in front of everyone. “He also took the time to create a video with everything from our first picture together all the way up through our most recent photos, to show our love story unfolding. My heart melted a little!” As for Matt, his favorite moment: “Taking photos together, just Ashley and I. That time was so valuable and special.” Ashley agrees that their photographers Mark and Danny from R&R Photographic Imaging were amazing. “They are so personable and goofy that you sometimes don’t even know they’re there! But you know they captured amazing shots. They kept everyone laughing through the stressful moments, and we know our wedding day will be forever documented in a truly special way because of them.”
