Planning a Lake Country Wedding
Bridgette and Kyle met through family friends and dated for two years before getting engaged. Kyle surprised Bridgette by popping the question on their second anniversary at the Retzer Nature Center, where they’d had their first date together.
The two planned a September wedding in 2021 with a boho, woodsy theme. Both the ceremony and reception were held at Fête of Wales. “This was the first thing we booked! We wanted a stunning venue where we could do the ceremony and reception while having plenty of room for our guests,” Bridgette says. “The floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the west-facing pond sold me. Additionally, the bride and groom suites were amazing to get ready in—we did hair and makeup on site.”
The bride found her Stella York gown at Bucci’s Bridal in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. “Bucci’s was such an amazing experience! I worked with Nicole, who helped me stay on budget and find my dream dress without getting overwhelmed.”
Wedding Morning
To start the day, Kyle and Bridgette had a morning meal catered for their bridal party by Cornerstone Restaurant in Genesee. “We wanted to support a local business, and we know how long wedding mornings get for the groomsmen and bridesmaids. We opted for pulled pork, Greek salad, and two crostini options.”
Made with Love
Kyle and Bridgette did their share of DIY to bring their woodsy theme to life. “We made our centerpiece platforms—cut logs sponged with metallic rose gold and gold, then stained. We also made our table numbers to have a rose gold mercury glass look. Kyle’s dad is a wood teacher, so he made us our welcome sign. Last but not least, we created the pallet wall backdrop used during our ceremony and then later for family pictures!”
Ceremony & Reception at Fête of Wales
The ceremony was officiated by Bridgette’s Aunt Joanie. “It was so special having someone marry us who knew us and who also had such a strong and loving marriage,” Bridgette says. “Kyle and I created the ceremony script together, and also wrote our own vows, which made the ceremony that much more special and intimate.
There was an appetizer hour immediately following the ceremony with passed apps, platters, and cocktails—plus a coffee cart! “Our coffee cart with Excess Coffee Co had a custom fall beverage menu.”
Drinks were handled by Fête. “They do their drink packages per person rather than volume, which was great for planning purposes so we could pay the bar tab and tip ahead of time. The bartenders were a great, attentive team. We only had great comments about the bar!”
For sweets, there was a custard cart from LeDuc’s Custard with three custard choices of raspberry, chocolate, and cookie dough. “We still wanted to cut the cake,” Bridgette says, “so I surprised Kyle with a Marvel-themed cake from Batter MKE! They not only helped me surprise Kyle, they kept the cake on theme. Our cake featured roses made out of old-school Marvel comics, and the side of the cake featured a Marvel city skyline.”
