Jenny and Daniel met their sophomore year at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. They were friends first, then started dating their junior year. When the two got engaged, they had planned a big trip to New Zealand to visit Jenny’s sister, who was studying abroad. “Jenny’s family thought the proposal would happen while we were there — and so did Jenny,” Daniel says. Jenny was completely surprised when, over Daniel’s birthday a few weeks later, he finally proposed.

Daniel and Jenny planned a traditional wedding. “We didn’t really have a theme. Our focus was just on the commitment we were making to one another, having fun, and trying to appreciate all the memories we made that day.” The ceremony was held at the Noble Victory Memorial Chapel at St. John’s Military Academy. “It’s an older church with big stained glass windows and a lot of stone; the whole experience was wonderful.”

Daniel says one of his favorite moments of the day was seeing Jenny walk down the aisle, wearing a gorgeous dress from Savvy Bride. “We made eye contact,” Daniel recalls, “and it really made the whole thing feel real. Kind of a ‘Holy cow, we’re actually getting married!’ moment.”

For the reception, the party moved to the Country Springs Hotel. “It was a lot of fun and people stayed out on the dance floor until after the reception ended. Along with dancing, we had a limbo contest, fake mustache coasters, and ended the night with a lovely rendition of Piano Man — followed by Dan being announced WWE-style and ‘wrestling’ one of his friends. One of our friends recorded it, an there’s an audible gasp from the group when Dan lifted his friend over his head!”
Dinner and the open bar were catered by the Country Springs. “The open bar definitely helped people loosen up on the dance floor and stay out there all night. The Country Springs was really great to work with!” In fact, Jenny and Daniel say that their favorite thing they planned for their wedding was indeed their Country Springs reception. For dessert, there was cake from Simma’s Bakery: “Our cake was awesome!”

To add some personal touches, Jenny and Daniel embraced a little DIY. Jenny’s Maid of Honor made a Richards sign in their wedding colors that was displayed at the entry table. “It now hangs in our living room, and it’s a great reminder of a special day.” The couple also featured a display of photos from all of their parents’ and grandparents’ wedding days. “It was really fun to have those included to help people see the great relationship role models we have in our lives.”
