Vintage style from Milwaukee’s Alfa Flower & Wedding

August 4, 2013

From classic bouquets to on-trend mason jars, Alfa Flower & Wedding Shop helped bring our photoshoot into full bloom. Locally owned and family operated for over 75 years, Alfa is a one-stop wedding shop that specializes in invitations, rentals, and accessories (everything from unity candles to garters) — and flowers of course! Whether traditional or contemporary, co-owner Katie Grogan entrusts high-quality blooms to her talented florists for gorgeous results.

On photoshoot day, Katie actually did all the arranging herself — that’s two tables full of floral centerpieces and all of the bridal party bouquets and boutonnieres. For the bouquets, Katie kept it classic and timeless. For the centerpieces, she embraced the inherently natural feel of Twisted Willow Farm. “The overall shabby chic look is perfect for this setting,” she says.

Both tables had a vintage vibe, but the effect of each was decidedly different. “I worked with two color schemes,” Katie explains. “One to match the china on the first table: a rose pattern with purples and pinks and blue undertones. I filled milk glass vases with a simple spray of wildflowers. They had an outdoorsy look — ideal for an intimate, natural setting. The colors paired perfectly with the floral pattern on the dishes and the lovely linens used on the tables and chairs.”

The second table? “Anything goes! I only had to coordinate with the grass and the trees, so I went for lots of color. An assortment of flowers gives you more of an ‘I just picked these’ feeling.” Katie arranged them in mason chars wrapped in burlap for rustic romance.

As for the bouquets: ever-popular peonies, anemones, ranuculous, roses, and textured fillers and foliage. “The colors were subtle, but vibrant in a way that any bridal gown could be worn with these flowers. I kept the boutonnieres simple — they’re a great match for the bridal bouquets.”
