Mackenzie and Colin marry at the Bowery

Rubicon Wedding at The Bowery Barn

February 12, 2024

A rustic, boho, whimsical Wisconsin wedding

The Beginning

For Mackenzie and Colin, it was love at first swipe. For their first Tinder date in June 2018, they decided to meet at Starbucks and walk around the mall to spend more time together. A few years later, Colin planned a weekend trip to Mackenzie’s family cabin, her favorite place in the world and where she had been going since she was born. On the second day of their getaway, they took their puppy Millie for a walk around the lake before embarking on a paddle boat ride. As Mackenzie was walking to the shore, Colin called her name from the deck. She turned around to see him down on one knee. It was Mackenzie’s dream to get engaged up north, so it was perfect.

The Dress

Mackenzie bought her wedding dress at Evermore Bridal in Brookfield. She had fallen in love with a dress she found while browsing Pinterest, but the designer was only carried in a few places. While she was at the Wonderful World of Weddings expo at Wisconsin State Fair Park, she came across Evermore Bridal’s booth. Lo and behold, the boutique had the style in their inventory! She scheduled an appointment immediately to try on her dream gown. “I had never felt more beautiful,” Mackenzie shared.

The Ceremony and Reception

Mackenzie and Colin tied the knot at The Bowery Barn in Rubicon, Wisconsin on a sunny September day. In addition to dinner, dancing, and drinks, the reception featured plenty of yard games and a bonfire with s’mores. The couple’s favorite parts of their special day were the speeches and the grand march, during which the maid of honor and best man surprised the newlyweds with Fathead cutouts of their faces. The flowers, designed by Tully Floral, were the bride’s favorite design element.

The Food and Drinks

For dinner, guests enjoyed a Mexican buffet catered by Los Mariachis. The late-night snack included none other than Dominos pizza, which hit the spot after plenty of dancing. Mackenzie and Colin’s wedding cake was from Black Twig Bakery in Wauwatosa. Dessert also included glazed donuts from Kwik Trip and apple cider donuts from Swan’s Pumpkin Farm.

Words of Wisdom from the Bride

“Stick to your budget, it can be easy to think a little splurge here and there is no big deal, but it adds up very quickly.”
