Jessica and Xavier’s wedding was everything they hoped it would be, set among the towering trees and rustic barn of The Farm at Dover, their June wedding blended elegant details with natural beauty, meaningful traditions, and unforgettable food, creating a day their guests are still talking about.
How They Met
Jessica and Xavier met while attending Rufus King High School in Milwaukee. After spending time together just once, they knew they had found something special. From that day forward, they’ve been inseparable, growing up together through every stage of life before finally saying “I do.”
The Proposal
The proposal was as unexpected as it was unforgettable. While celebrating Xavier’s birthday with dinner at the former White House restaurant in Bay View, dessert arrived with a surprise hidden inside Jessica’s crème brûlée. At first she couldn’t figure out why there was a strange object sitting in her dessert. Then realization hit, it was the engagement ring. Completely caught off guard, Jessica could only stare in disbelief before the excitement finally set in, making it a proposal neither of them will ever forget.

The Planning Process
Jessica and Xavier planned their wedding over the course of a year, with Jessica taking the lead on nearly every detail herself while her aunt and cousin stepped in as day-of coordinators.
Originally, Jessica had dreamed of getting married in Mississippi so her beloved grandmother could attend. After her grandmother unexpectedly passed away early in the planning process, Jessica found a beautiful way to honor that original vision. Instead of taking everyone south, she brought the feeling of the country to Milwaukee by choosing The Farm at Dover.
The couple embraced a rustic farmhouse fairytale aesthetic with soft pink and champagne tones throughout the celebration. Jessica also designed the invitations herself and created many of the custom signs with a little help from Etsy and FedEx, adding personal touches throughout.

Wedding Day Looks
Jessica found her dream gown almost immediately. Although she tried on about five dresses, the very first gown she slipped into, a stunning Essence of Australia design from White Dress Off the Rack, never left her mind. After trying several more, she put the first one back on and instantly knew it was the one.
Her off-the-shoulder gown featured delicate floral appliqué, a full tulle skirt, and timeless romantic details that perfectly complemented the woodland setting. The bridesmaids wore flowing shades of blush and pink from David’s Bridal.
Xavier and his groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos from Men’s Wearhouse.
Wedding Ceremony
Surrounded by nature’s beauty at The Farm at Dover, Jessica and Xavier exchanged vows during an outdoor ceremony that embraced simplicity. White folding chairs lined the aisle leading to a rustic wooden arbor adorned with fresh flowers.
Jessica walked down the aisle to “At Last” by Etta James.
One of the most meaningful parts of the ceremony came after they exchanged vows. Jessica and Xavier honored their heritage by participating in the tradition of jumping the broom. Rooted in African American history, the ritual symbolizes sweeping away the old – past struggles, fears or anything that no longer serves – and leaping boldly into a new life together, guided by faith, love and community.

Capturing the Day
Before the ceremony, Jessica and Xavier shared an emotional first look tucked among the peaceful gardens of The Farm at Dover. Seeing one another for the first time brought both of them to tears as they tried their best to hold back the emotion before walking down the aisle.
Photographer Amanda Evans Photography documented every meaningful moment, from quiet portraits beneath the towering trees to joyful bridal party photos and candid celebrations throughout the day. The venue’s wooded pathways, charming gardens, rustic barn, and open countryside created countless opportunities for timeless photographs that perfectly reflected the couple’s vision.
The Reception
Following the ceremony, guests gathered inside The Farm at Dover‘s beautiful barn for an evening. Round guest tables paired with a long farmhouse table for the wedding party created an intimate atmosphere, while fresh eucalyptus greenery and soft floral arrangements carried the natural design indoors.
For self-proclaimed foodies like Jessica and Xavier, the menu was always going to be the highlight, and it certainly lived up to expectations. Cocktail hour featured a generous grazing table alongside passed arancini, which guests are still talking about.
Dinner showcased an Italian-inspired feast prepared by Nadi Plates, including chicken alla Nadia, roast beef, pasta cruda, pancetta with peas, lemon broccolini, and mashed potatoes. As the evening continued, guests enjoyed pizza as a late-night snack before celebrating on the dance floor with DJ Dub Deezy.

Advice from the Bride and Groom
Jessica and Xavier encourage couples to truly enjoy the planning journey instead of focusing only on the wedding day itself.
“Things may get stressful, but remember to have fun and enjoy each other throughout the planning process. You’ll likely discover something new about your fiancé along the way. The wedding day goes by so quickly, so don’t forget to appreciate the moments leading up to it, too.”
