Some love stories begin with chance encounters, while others start with a simple message years in the making. For Lauren and Anton, a Facebook friendship dating back to their college days eventually blossomed into forever. Surrounded by 115 of their closest family and friends, the couple celebrated with a colorful yet timeless wedding at The George and Madcap Lounge in Milwaukee. Filled with elegant details, heartfelt moments, and plenty of personal touches, including boozy ice cream shakes and a late-night stop at Real Chili, the day was everything they had dreamed of and more.

How They Met

Although both attended Marquette University at the same time, Lauren and Anton somehow never crossed paths. They had been Facebook friends since 2014, but it wasn’t until 2022 that Anton sent Emily a message and asked her out to dinner. What started as a simple invitation quickly turned into something much more, and before long, the two were writing their own love story.

The Proposal

Their engagement story is one they’ll laugh about forever. Because Lauren works night shift, sleeping until the afternoon is part of her routine. On New Year’s Eve, she woke up in the late afternoon to find their apartment empty. After walking downstairs, she found a card surrounded by flowers from Anton instructing her to meet him at Atwater Park.

When she arrived, she found Anton standing outside in the freezing cold. Thinking Lauren would wake up hours earlier, he had set his plan in motion only to realize she was still asleep. Rather than spoil the surprise, he patiently waited outside for nearly three hours. Despite the chilly temperatures, the heartfelt proposal became a memory neither of them will ever forget.

The Planning Process

With a 15-month engagement, Lauren and Anton envisioned a wedding that felt colorful, timeless, and effortlessly elegant. They found their inspiration in The George and Madcap Lounge, whose unique character and beautifully curated interiors perfectly matched the classic yet fun atmosphere they wanted to create. By embracing the venue’s existing charm, they kept décor simple with warm “mushroom” tones, gold accents, candles, and meaningful family photos displayed throughout the space.

To help bring everything together, the couple worked with Casey Armstrong of Save the Date MKE, whose organization and behind-the-scenes support helped ensure the planning process, and the wedding day itself, felt seamless and stress-free.

Wedding Day Looks

Lauren had always dreamed about finding the perfect dress, and after visiting five bridal salons, she found herself trying on the very gown she had saved on Pinterest years before.

The Protea gown by Alena Leena from Strike Bridal Bar featured clean lines and timeless structure, creating an effortlessly elegant look that perfectly suited the day.

Her soft waves and natural glam by Mary Guthrie and The Bridal Beauty Team completed the romantic style, while Anton looked classic in a black tuxedo from The Black Tux. Together, the pair embraced a look that felt sophisticated, modern, and completely timeless.

Wedding Ceremony

Surrounded by lush florals from Feisty Flowers, Lauren and Anton exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at The George and Madcap Lounge. Soft blush, ivory, and pale blue blooms framed the couple while sunlight poured through the room’s dramatic windows, creating a breathtaking backdrop.

Earlier in the day, the two shared private vows during their first look at the historic Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Milwaukee before saying “I do” in front of family and friends. Officiant Mitch from Mitch and Jenna Weddings brought warmth and personality to the ceremony, making guests feel as though he had know the couple forever.

Capturing the Day

Photographer, Corrina Nicole Photography, beautifully documented every moment, from emotional getting-ready memories with Lauren’s mother to portraits on the grand staircase of the Hilton Garden Inn. The couple also made a stop at the Milwaukee Art Museum before returning to The George, where Corrina captured timeless images that highlighted both the romance between Lauren and Anton and the elegant architecture surrounding them. Her calming presence and artistic eye allowed the couple to be fully present and simply enjoy the day.

The Reception

The reception embraced understated elegance, allowing The George and Madcap Lounge’s stunning interiors to shine.

Long tables dressed in crisp linens, from Windy City Linen, were accented with candles, petite lamps, and airy floral arrangements in soft spring hues. Guests enjoyed an incredible dinner from Shully’s Cuisine, signature Espresso Martinis and Old Fashioneds, and one of the night’s biggest hits…a boozy ice cream shake bar featuring Grasshopper and Old Fashioned mini shakes.

As Sound by Design kept the dance floor packed, Lauren and Anton soaked in every moment dancing the night away with their guests.

Looking Back

When asked to describe their wedding day, Lauren and Anton chose three simple words: perfect, unforgettable, and timeless. More than any detail, they treasure the feeling of being surrounded by family and friends and the joy of looking across the dance floor and seeing everyone celebrating together. Their favorite memories weren’t necessarily planned, they were the little moments shared with one another and the people who mean the most.

Advice from the Bride and Groom

Lauren’s advice to couples is simple: don’t panic if everything isn’t finished months in advance. Much of the planning comes together in the final few months, and that’s okay. She also highly recommends investing in vendors who can handle setup and cleanup so that family and friends can simply enjoy the celebration.

Looking back, one thing she wishes they had done differently was sharing their personal vows during the ceremony.

“We were nervous about saying them in front of everyone,” she says. “But once we were standing there, surrounded by our closest family and friends, I realized there was nothing to be nervous about. I know our guests would have loved hearing them too.”

Wisconsin Wedding Vendor Team

Surrounded by family, friends, and an exceptional team of vendors, Lauren and Anton’s vision came together beautifully, with each detail thoughtfully executed to create a celebration that felt effortless, elegant, and uniquely their own.
