Brooklyn & Kyle’s Lakefront Wedding at Discovery World, Milwaukee, WI

Brooklyn & Kyle’s Lakefront Wedding at Discovery World

March 9, 2020

From Blind Date to Bended Knee

Brooklyn and Kyle met on a blind date at Camp Bar. “We immediately hit it off,” Brooklyn says. “By our third date, I knew I was going to marry him.” The two got engaged on December 14th, Brooklyn’s birthday, in 2018. Kyle planned a super special day complete with a couples massage, mani pedis, and an amazing dinner at Mason Street Grill.

After dinner, Kyle lined up a horse-and-carriage ride around downtown to see the Christmas lights. Kyle’s original plan was to propose during the ride, but that quickly changed when he realized there wasn’t room in the carriage to get down on one knee. “He ended up proposing in our home with just us two, a bottle of wine, and our dog,” Brooklyn recalls. “It was exactly how I always wanted it to happen.”

Planning & Prep

Kyle and Brooklyn decided on an August wedding at Discovery World in downtown Milwaukee. The ceremony was held at Pilot House and the reception in the Great Lakes Exhibit. The style of their wedding was elegant, timeless, and true to themselves as a couple. The two attended the Wonderful World of Weddings show, where they ended up booking their florist, Bank of Flowers.

“Melissa at Bank of Flowers sat down with us to fully understand our vision. She explained what flowers would be best for the season and for what we had in mind. In the months following our initial appointment, we made a handful of changes, but Melissa remained patient and flexible with us.” Another stand-out vendor was White Dress Boutique, where Brooklyn found her wedding dress as well as her bridesmaids dresses. On the day of the wedding, she turned to Brittany Schneider of Blush by Brittany for her wedding makeup.

Downtown & Lakefront Photos

Kyle and Brooklyn picked picture locations that are both special and stunning. The first batch of photos was taken at the bride and groom’s home in Bay View, where the girls were getting ready. The fellas had photos taken at the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel in the Third Ward. Family photos were snapped at Discovery World on the patio. “Kyle and I also snuck away to take some photos on the Reiman Footbridge in front of the Milwaukee Art Museum.”

A Delicious Reception

The Discovery World reception began with what Brooklyn calls “an amazing dinner and even better speeches. Seriously, we were so touched by what our loved ones had to say.” That amazing dinner was catered by Bartolotta. It started with an open bar and passed hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour. For the sit-down meal, there was house salad, dinner rolls, and a choice of filet mignon, chicken, or eggplant rigatoni.

For dessert there was a vanilla cake with raspberry filling and buttercream frosting by Sweet Perfections. There was also a variety of donuts from classic glazed to maple bacon, all courtesy of Cranky Al’s. Lastly, the bride and groom chose to serve up slices of pizza as a late-night snack.

Fireworks to Finish

Is there any better way to celebrate a marriage than with surprise fireworks? After dinner and the special dances, Brooklyn and Kyle treated their guests to a fireworks show. “It was such a special moment for us because Kyle’s father had recently passed away and he loved fireworks,” Brooklyn says. “Being able to incorporate that into our day made us feel like he was with us.”

Brooklyn’s Advice

“Try to cherish every moment of the planning process. It might seem overwhelming at times, but everything will fly by and before you know it, the day you spent months planning has passed.”
