Hailey and Adam met at Concordia University Wisconsin during their sophomore year. They crossed paths at a couple of parties, chatted a while, and a couple weeks later planned to go to another party together. That night, Adam and Hailey wound up sitting on the couch and talking. “At this point I had only known him a few weeks,” Hailey recalls. “But we were sitting on the couch and he said to me, ‘So if we’re gonna get married…’ I was so caught off guard — but apparently Adam knew what he was looking for!”
Adam went out and bought Hailey’s engagement ring just days before he popped the question. “I couldn’t hold on to the ring for more than one week, or I would have spoiled it,” he says. Adam asked Hailey’s dad for her hand in marriage. He also worked with her mom and sisters to set up a big surprise at their family cabin in Minocqua, Wisconsin.
Adam enlisted Hailey’s younger brother to help decorate the dock while the girls went into town for ice cream. When Hailey came home, she asked Adam why he was dressed cute. He told her he wanted to show her something on the dock. “She quickly figured out what was happening because I started crying right away,” Adam says. “Once we got to the dock, I asked her to be my wife. It was perfect. She had no idea her whole family was going to be there to celebrate, and it made the night even more special.”
Hailey and Adam planned an August wedding with a church ceremony and reception at The Barn at The Bog. The bridesmaids wore blush, and the floral color scheme was blush, dusty rose, white, greenery, and pampas grass. Hailey found her Morilee by Madeline Gardner gown at Bliss Bridal in Brookfield, WI. The overall theme: rustic boho.
The ceremony took place at Trinity Lutheran Church of Freistadt in Mequon, Wisconsin. “It’s not only my grandparent’s church, it’s also the oldest church in Wisconsin,” Hailey says. “It’s absolutely beautiful with historic grounds.” Hailey’s favorite moment was her first look with her dad and her younger brother. “He’s only 14 and such a softy — he started bawling.”
The Barn at The Bog is a special place to Hailey and Adam. Hailey’s grandpa is a member there and would bring Adam there to golf. “Also, the barn captured our rustic boho theme perfectly. We were so impressed with The Bog and how they made the day run so smoothly and gave us the wedding we dreamed of. We can’t thank them enough.”
Dinner was also catered by The Bog. There was a plated choice of beef tenderloin, pecan-crusted chicken, or cheese ravioli. For dessert, there were assorted cupcakes for guests, as well as a chocolate cake with cookies-and-cream buttercream and chocolate ganache for the head table, which the bride and groom ceremoniously cut. There was also a campfire with s’mores to roast.
For wedding favors, guests were given candles from Riverside Soy Candles, which is based out of Hailey’s home town of Duluth, Minnesota. “We personalized them, and they were the perfect gift to fit our theme.”
Hailey’s favorite moments of the night were those full of emotion. “My dad’s opening speech and toast at the reception was so awesome — people were laughing and crying!” Her first dance with her dad was also mighty special. “We danced to ‘My Little Girl’ by Tim McGraw. My dad told me when I was 12 that we would dance to that song at my wedding. I never cried so hard.”
Hailey’s younger sisters, the Maids of Honor, performed a song/rap — ”it was epic!” Hailey says. “They were hilarious and had the crowd dying from laughter. It was a complete surprise and so awesome. Overall, the day was filled with so much love and all the people have shaped us into who we are today.”
Hailey’s planning tips: “Stay organized and make a spreadsheet including all your vendors with pricing. Also send out a timeline to everyone included in the wedding, detailing the itinerary for the weekend and wedding day. That way no one is stuck guessing where they need to be and when.”
