Lindsey & Jake’s Rustic-Chic Wedding at the Cupola Barn

July 1, 2019

Though Lindsey and Jake first met at a college party, it wasn’t until a few years after school that the two reconnected in Minneapolis and started dating. Lindsey was on a trip to visit her sister in San Francisco when Jake proposed. The two sisters went to Sonoma for the day, only for Lindsey to find Jake waiting on the back patio at Bella Vineyards with an important question to ask her.

The happy couple planned a September wedding. Jake and Lindsey agree that one of their favorite parts of the day was first seeing each other at the ceremony. “We didn’t do a first look, so walking down the aisle was a big moment for me,” Lindsey says. “I was happy we didn’t see each other before then because it made the moment even more special.” Jake echoes that his favorite wedding-day memory is first seeing Lindsey in her Pronovias, Barcelona gown: “It was a surreal moment of excitement and joy that resulted in some tears.”

The reception took place at the Cupola Barn in Oconomowoc. Barn-chic was the style — rustic but elegant, with a palette of blush pink, gold, and lots of greenery. The bride and groom made sure to get there right away to greet their guests. “Because we wanted to welcome everyone to the barn, we did all of our couples photos there. The barn venue and outdoor space are gorgeous, so it was an easy decision!”

Jake and Lindsey especially savored the moment they first entered the space. “It was so special to walk into the barn together and see how everything came together. As we sat down during dinner, we stopped to take it all in, surrounded by all of our family and friends.” Dinner was catered by Saz’s, with bartending services by Bar Stars. There were passed appetizers and a Mediterranean and cheese board platter for starters. For the main course, guests had a choice of plated filet, chicken, or a vegetarian option. Later on, there was pizza, and the bar was open all night.

Dessert was made special by Press Waffles, serving warm Belgian Liege waffles right out of their mobile food truck trailer. “Jake and I don’t really like cake, so we wanted to do something different for us and the guests,” Lindsey says. “The waffles were a hit! Jake and I enjoyed thinking up the small details that we thought would make our wedding unique and enjoyable for everyone.” Their advice to other brides and grooms: “Start planning early and figure out what’s important to you as a couple — and make sure those things get incorporated into the day.”
