Jessica and Spencer marry at the Delafield Hotel

A Dark and Moody Wedding at Delafield Hotel

September 5, 2024

Black and dark emerald green come together for a Gothic wedding design.

How They Met

Jessica and Spencer met online through Tinder. “We had a date where I not only showed up (Spencer didn’t I was going to), but brought the Christmas cookies I had promised. And you could say it was love at first sight. But went our separate ways for the next few months since I left Wisconsin to go back down to Chicago to finish up my last semester of college. We reconnected towards the end of my semester and he came down to visit me after my semester finished. The rest is history, we’ve been together ever since.”

The Planning Process

Wedding Date: October 13, 2023
Guest Count: 108
Style/Theme: Dark, moody, gothic
Wedding Colors: Black and dark emerald green with pops of gold
Bridal Shows Attended: Wonderful World of Weddings, Lake Country Wedding Show,Wisconsin’s Largest Wedding Rummage Sale

What was your favorite design?

“Trying to pick one element that I designed to be my favorite is extremely difficult. My hands touched every single part of the wedding in some way. Probably the biggest undertaking and the most standout were the centerpieces.”

Weddings Looks

Dress: Madeline Gardner from Amelishan
Menswear: Best Tuxedo Company
Hair: Veronica Foster
Makeup: Beauticianzillas
Rings: Point No Point Studio in Snohomish, WA

How many dresses did you try on?

“I tried on 5 dresses. I chose the fifth one I tried on. The first I tried was a black dress, mostly just for fun but I was still really curious if I would like a black wedding dress since it is the main color I wear every day. But it wasn’t quite right. The dress I ended up choosing was inspired by street lights of old New York City and vintage inspired.”

Ceremony Details

Location: Delafield Hotel
Photo stops: All onsite at Delafield Hotel

“Spencer and I had wrote our own vows in notebooks that I made custom with our star signs on the outside. Our officiant also read a poem about how love is like a dog since we involved our dog as our flower girl in the ceremony. Between him and our own vows there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”

Ceremony Decor

“Our decor was quite simple but very prominent. We rented an arch from the hotel and decorated it with some chiffon and floral arrangements that I made. We didn’t have any aisle decor, but instead had candles in various vases that we thrifted over the span of a year at the back row of chairs. So when we looked own the aisle, there was a light source that lead to the arch in the center.”

Reception Details

Location: Delafield Hotel
Food and Drink: Delafield Hotel and LeDuc’s

“The food and drinks were provided by the Delafield Hotel. Everything was absolutely delicious! During cocktail hour, there was an open bar with a summer mule as our picked drink and passed hors d’oeuvres. We had LeDuc’s catered to bring in their ice cream cart. It was like hearing the ice cream truck as a child. Everyone was so excited.”

Music & Entertainment: Ring Tunes
Dance Lessons: Redd with Ring Tunes
First Dance Song: Found by Jacob Banks

“We had a few things available to do besides dancing. Out in the foyer, we had a guestbook phone through Fete Fone where guests can record a voicemail instead of writing out a note. There was also a temporary tattoo station of custom tattoos that I had designed. We also had a cigar bar since Spencer loves smoking cigars.”

Looking Back

Biggest Wedding Splurge:

“Our photographers!!! Wouldn’t regret it for the world. I love looking back on our memories and the amazing gallery of our day.”

Vendor Who Impressed You the Most:

“Hannah and Kameron from the Delafield Hotel were integral to our wedding day. As much as I could have planned and made with my hands, they really took care of everything behind the scenes and truly made everything flawless. Every detail fine tuned to our wishes. Ring Tunes also really took care of us. They made the reception go so smoothly helping guests know what was going on and the night exciting.”

What Moment Sticks with You the Most?

“It’s not just a moment, but a person. My Husband. He supported and encouraged my vision every step of the way. He shouldered everything that morning and made sure nothing went wrong. And it didn’t. He made sure every detail was perfect. I couldn’t be more happy to call him my husband and have this memory to look back on for life.”
