An Elegant Summer Wedding at The George and Madcap Lounge

A classy celebration of love with purple, blue, and green jewel tones in the heart of Walker’s Point

The Beginning

For Emily and John, it was love at first swipe. Shortly after they started chatting, they learned that they lived on the same street in Downtown Milwaukee yet somehow never ran into one another. They finally met in person on their first date at Hi Hat Lounge on Brady Street. Years later, on a week-long road trip across New England, John planned a day of exploration across Maine. One of their stops – and perhaps the most meaningful part of their trip – was a famous lighthouse, where John got down on one knee and proposed.

The Look

Emily found her dream wedding dress, a gorgeous Justin Alexander gown, at Vera’s House of Bridals in Madison. “The dress I chose just fit like a glove. It was timeless and simple,” she shared. “Once I put on the floral embroidered veil, it added detail that made it feel complete and different than anything I’ve seen.” The Bridal Beauty Team did Emily’s stunning hair and makeup.

The Celebration

Emily and John were married at The George in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood. A close friend served as the officiant, and John’s grandmother read a poem during the ceremony. The bride and groom’s unity ceremony featured glass pieces that were turned into a beautiful work of art that is now on display in their home. The cocktail hour was held in the Madcap Lounge, which had a fantastic atmosphere to kick off the festivities that evening.

Before joining all of their loved ones, Emily and John shared a private moment to themselves on the rooftop, where they drank bottles of Heineken with their wedding date custom engraved at the brewery in Amsterdam. The reception started off with Emily and John’s first dance as a married couple to “Beyond” by Leon Bridges. The dance floor was packed all night thanks to David Charles Productions, who also provided the photo booth.

The Photos

Autumn Silva Photography captured all of Emily and John’s wedding day’s amazing moments. In addition to the effortlessly picturesque venue, the couple and their bridal party stopped at Cupertino Park in Bay View for photos.

The Planning

Emily and John visited the St. James Open House and Wonderful World of Weddings expos to find the perfect vendors for their big day. They hired Renee Breanne Design as their consultant and designer, who ensured everything ran smoothly and looked spectacular.

The Décor

The color palette of Emily and John’s wedding featured jewel tones of purple, blue, and green. The venue was filled with beautiful florals from Feisty Flowers, candles, champagne glasses (the same ones from Emily’s parents’ wedding), and unique table linens from Windy City Linen and Relic Rentals. Their custom sign was designed by Lettered by Shi. “The George is intimate and classy, which is something we really wanted. The details throughout the venue were something we didn’t see anywhere else, and the fact that everything could be done in one location was a big plus for us.”

The Food and Drinks

After the ceremony, guests were handed champagne flutes to toast the newlyweds during cocktail hour. Hors d’oeuvres from Saz’s Catering included duck confit tostadas, scallop crudo, lemon panna cotta, black truffle deviled eggs, and mini BLTs. The dinner menu, also from Saz’s, included a maple pear salad and an entrée choice of petite filet, chicken fumé au pêches, or grilled vegetarian paella.

The three-tiered wedding cake from Aggie’s Bakery & Cake Shop in West Allis consisted of chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and yellow cake with raspberry filling. Guests indulged in premium alcohol throughout the evening, including the signature drink, the Ollie Old Fashioned in honor of their dog. For the late-night snack, guests munched on a variety of sliders: chicken and waffles, Wagyu beef, and Key West po boy.

The Honeymoon

Emily and John basked in their newly wedded bliss in Belize at the Sleeping Giant Resort and the Matachica Resort.

Words of Wisdom from the Bride

“I would recommend really taking your time to find the right vendors to fit your day. Set up calls and speak to multiple people until it feels right! I would also recommend someone at least month of and day of coordinator to take stress off your big day. Both John and I felt so calm during our wedding known that everything was being taken care of by such a great team that we trusted.”
