A Serendipitous Meeting

When Dana and Scott were both invited to a whiskey tasting with friends, they hit it off immediately. A few weeks later, they had their first date at Goose Island Brewery in Chicago. It was the perfect spot to enjoy their love for tasty drinks — and to kickstart their love for one another.

An Astonishing Engagement

On April 17, 2021, the two were just about to leave their apartment to meet up with Dana’s cousin for dinner. Even though she had already hailed an Uber to the restaurant, Scott insisted they head up to the roof until their car arrived since they had some time to spare. Dana, who is usually one to catch sight of surprises, had no clue what was about to happen. When they made it to the rooftop, Scott popped the best question Dana had ever heard.

“It seriously happened so fast that it’s all kind of a blur,” she shared. That weekend, the newly engaged couple celebrated with their families, including their dog Goose, who was, of course, named after their favorite brewery.

Wedding Planning

After Dana had tried on seven different wedding gowns at various stores, she realized that the very first dress she wore was the one. Her dress, which was designed by Anne Barge, was fun yet classic, which represents her perfectly.

Wedding Ceremony at Lake Lawn Resort

Dana and Scott’s ceremony and reception were both held at Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan, Wisconsin, where Dana grew up. The setting of so many memories from Dana’s childhood quickly became an important part of Scott’s life as their relationship blossomed. The wedding party even took photos at Dana’s family lake house, which they consider their “home away from home.”

The shimmering lake on a gorgeous summer day created a breathtaking, tranquil backdrop for the ceremony. It meant the world to the newlyweds to have all of their family and friends gathered at their favorite place in the world.

Reception at Lake Lawn Resort

Upon entering the venue, Dana was delighted to see her vision come to life. The cocktail hour on the lakefront was lovely, and the weather couldn’t have been better for mid-July. Their cocktail hour featured signature drinks — the “Goose,” an old-fashioned (naturally, named after their beloved pup and their first date location), and the “Delavan Lake Spritz,” a tasty twist on an Aperol Spritz.

The Food

The dinner meals were cooked onsite at Lake Lawn Resort. Guests even told the couple, “We don’t typically like wedding food, but yours was great!” Julie Michelle Cakes catered the dessert.

The Decor

Light pinks and blues were the central colors of the wedding, creating a delicate, youthful, and chic palette. The homemade place cards were set outside during the cocktail hour. To cleverly prevent them from blowing away, each card was attached to a keychain with the couple’s initials engraved, a special design by Dana’s brother. The couple’s invitation designer Carol also drew a map to use for their guest book, which they will have on display in their home forever.

The Bride’s Favorite Moments

Scott surprised Dana during their first look by having friends bring their dog Goose to join for pictures. She was delighted that their little family was able to bask in the moment together. Dana and Scott also enjoyed small moments of alone time, which will always be cherished.

The Honeymoon

Dana and Scott honeymooned in Italy, and it was as magical as they imagined it would be.
