Jessica and Jakob met on Bumble and quickly learned they had a lot in common, lots of mutual interests, and had unknowingly crossed paths over the years before finally meeting in 2019. They went on a few dates, then on the 4th date, Jakob went to Jessica’s house with a pepperoni pizza and a DVD of “Star Wars Episode 4.” That night, they made their relationship official. “It’s been wonderful ever since.”
Jakob asked Jessica to marry him at Boerner Botanical Gardens in the rose garden. Jakob’s grandmother and grandfather loved to walk the gardens and even have a memorial plaque in the rose garden. The two planned an April wedding, classic and romantic, with soft hues, delicate lighting, florals, and greens.
Jessica and Jakob planned to have their wedding ceremony at Elmbrook Church, their reception at Historic Courthouse 1893, and their rehearsal dinner at Delafield Brewhaus—all west of Milwaukee en route to Lake Country. They chose their reception venue based on proximity to their home and to pay respects to their roots and common places of interest. “Historic Courthouse 1893 offered easy access, a large venue with many amenities, a very helpful staff, and a good price.”
The ceremony was traditional, but Jakob and Jessica also added personal vows. Their pastor shared a special message and a scripture verse he chose especially for them. “Our favorite part was that it was so relaxed and personalized.” They also asked two aunts, one of Jakob’s and one of Jessica’s, to each read a scripture verse and share either wisdom regarding marriage.
Photos were taken by photographer Allysha Noelle both at Jessica and Jakob’s home and in Grede Park in Waukesha. “We wish we had known that for some public parks you need a photo permit at least 30 days before the wedding. The permit allows the wedding party to have priority for picture taking.” That said, they loved working with Allysha Noelle. “She was so wonderful to work with—responsive to calls and emails, answered questions clearly, and genuinely wanted us to have the best day ever.”
Jakob and Jessica also loved working with their dinner caterer, Chef Jack’s. Dinner was served family style. “We wanted an affordable option for our guests to stay seated.” On the menu: beef tips in mushroom gravy, chicken breast wrapped in puff pastry, green beans, red potatoes, white cheddar mac & cheese, salad, and rolls. Dessert was by Sweet Perfections with wedding cake and a coffee bar. “The wedding cake flavors were vanilla with lemon raspberry filling and chocolate with dark chocolate mousse.”
After dinner, the reception at Waukesha’s Historic Courthouse 1893 made way for music. Looking back, Jessica says their first dance was one of the most memorable moments. “The song we picked was ‘My Person’ by Spencer Crandall. Our DJ had sparklers go off at the perfect moment to add extra dazzle to our special dance.” Jessica’s other favorite thing about the wedding: “Being able to see friends and family gather around us in support and genuine care for our marriage. It was beautiful to see them come together to celebrate with us.”
